Dr. Sudeepta Varma is a board certified psychiatrist, clinical assistant professor of psychiatry at the NYU Langone Medical Center, and a fellow of the American Psychiatric Association. She is also the founding medical director and psychiatrist to a prestigious Manhattan mental health program a TV contributor and a frequent guest/medical advisor to the Dr. Oz Show.
Dr. Varma has appeared on numerous television and radio news programs including 20/20, CNN/HLN, ABC World News, the Dr. Oz Show, CBS Up to the Minute, MSNBC’s Dr. Nancy, CUNY TV, and local CBS and ABC news. She has been a guest on NPR, Oprah Radio and WNYC radio. Well-versed in a variety of health topics, Sirius Satellite’s Doctor Radio invites Dr. Varma monthly to interact with live callers from around the country. She has provided expert advice on a wide range of subjects including marital conflict, the impact of job stress on health, cardiac depression, and the health benefits of laughter and friendship.
Maintaining a special interest in women’s issue, Dr. Varma has served as a consultant to the committee on women for the American Psychiatric Association (APA), one of the largest and most respected medical organizations in the world. She published a monograph for the British Medical Journal on postpartum depression used by clinicians around the globe and was interviewed recently by ABC World News on the treatment recommendations for depression during pregnancy. Her expert advice on women’s health has been quoted by Women’s Health Magazine, Essence Magazine, Marie Claire Magazine, Fitness Magazine, Health, Momlogic.com and MSBNC. She has published articles for Nirvana and ABCD women’s magazines on self-esteem, body image and relationships.
